As the number of cases of COVID-19 increase in our community, so does anxiety associated with the pandemic.  The mental health effects of COVID-19 are as important to address as the physical health effects. To aid individuals and communities during this time, the ReACH Center will be compiling a range of resources and information on our COVID-19 page

Local Census Response Rate

Are you interested in seeing how many people in your community are responding to the 2020 Census?  As of August 11th the national self-response rate of the 2020 Census is 63.4%. The self-response rate for Texas is 58.5%, and the self-response rate in Bexar County is 62.5%. Stay up to date with self response rates from across the U.S. on the Census Bureau website.

ReACH Center Publication Cited in Recent USPSTF Hepatitis C Screening Recommendation

Recently published data from the ReACH Center's STOP HCC-HCV program was cited in the recently released US Preventive Services Task Force Recommendation Statement supporting the expansion of screening for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection from baby boomers to adolescents and adults.

TACKLE HIV/HCV

The work of the TACKLE HIV/HCV team, led by Waridibo Allison, MD, PhD was featured in the October 2019 edition of the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program CAREAction Newsletter.  The TACKLE HIV/HCV program integrates hepatitis C virus (HCV) care into HIV care through the use of the Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO)TM telementoring model.  

STOP HCC/HCV Program Featured in CPRIT Annual Report

The Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) featured the STOP HCC/HCV program in their 2018 annual report. The Screen, Treat Or Prevent (STOP) HCC/HCV program has been funded by CPRIT since May 2015 and is led by former ReACH Director Barbara J. Turner, MD, MSEd.

On Tuesday, August 29th, ReACH Director, Dr. Barbara J. Turner MD, MSEd, Dr. Hope Hubbard MD, an assistant professor of gastroenterology at UT Health San Antonio and Ms. Brenda Westbrooks, a patient screened and cured of hepatitis C through a program at the ReACH Center were featured on the Texas Public Radio program The Source.
