Recent ReACH Center Publication Shows Significant Improvement in Physical and Cognitive Function after Chronic Pain Self-Management Trial

Chronic Pain

A recently published article in the Journal of General Internal Medicine details results from a parallel-group randomized trial of a chronic pain self-management programs that was developed by ReACH Scholars.  This self-management program was developed for low-income patients with chronic pain who often lack the skills and resources necessary to manage their disease.  The program was developed with input from community stakeholder priorities and the randomized trial compared functional outcomes from participant training in two settings. One arm of the trial was a 6-month program delivered one-on-one in monthly clinic meetings with a community health worker trained as a chronic pain health educator and the second arm was delviered as eight group lectures deliverd by content experts in a local libary over the same 6-month period.  Subjects in both study arms showed significant improvement in multiple objective measures.  To read more about this exciting trial of our easily replicable self-managmeent program click here.
