ReACH Center and UT Southwestern Medical Center Launch Website to Help Texans Prevent Liver Cancer

STOP HCV HCC Logo

Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) is the 9th leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States and is one of the few cancers with an increasing incidence and mortality rate.  Texas has the second highest HCC rate in the country and HCC is the fastest growing cancer in the state.  The ReACH Center and UT Southwestern Medical Center through the support of the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) have partnered on the Screen Treat or Prevent Hepatocellular Carcinoma (STOP HCC) initiative which aims to reduce HCC incidence and mortality in Texas by implementing an evidence-based hepatitis C virus (HCV) screening and treatment program for low-income populations in primary care settings across South Texas and the Dallas region.  Beyond preventative screening and high-quality care for chronically infected patients, the STOP HCC program strives to promote public dialogue about this prevalent, dangerous and often-overlooked disease through an array of education initiatives across the South Texas and Dallas regions.  To learn more about the STOP HCC program please visit our recently launched website at stophepatitisC.com!
